In today’s competition, compact locomotives and comfort levels, there is no compromise in performance of locomotives.” ENGINE BEING THE HEART OF VEHICLE”, it is therefore essential to work on it for better performances.Now-a-days to enhance the performance of the engine many new technologies are been introduced such as1. Common – rail fuel injection system2. Turbocharger etc.One abstract of engine is its fuel injection system. This is of prime importance in diesel engines as there is no spark plug. One such ignition system is Common – rail fuel injection system which gives us flourished and efficient way to prevent pressure loss during fuel injection system.Common-rail technology delivers outstanding fuel economy, low running costs and reduced emissions. This advanced technology offers highly flexible, extremely accurate, high-pressure fuel injection for outstanding refinement, performance, fuel economy and reduced emission. Unlike conventional diesel engines, which rely on the fuel pump to deliver bursts of pressurized fuel to the individual cylinders through mechanical injectors, common-rail systems employ a high-pressure reservoir that delivers fuel to the cylinders via piezo - electric injectors.Turbocharger is used in the multi cylinder engine so as to compensate the lack of fresh air at high speed running of the engine. It also reduces the power loss occurring to create vacuum for sucking the fresh air inside the engine cylinder.Now-a-days along with performance of the I C engines the vehicle performance is also taken into consideration. To enhance the vehicle performance many new technologies are emerging to have best comfort and safety to the driver and the passengers such as:1. Night Vision Technology2. X – by – Wire, etc.The Night Vision technology is evolved from thermal-imaging or infrared technology used extensively during the Gulf War. It creates pictures based on heat energy emitted by the objects. Everything emits heat energy to some degree and it is high thermal contrast with background that allows the object to be seen.The Automotive industry is using by wire technology, including individual systems like throttle by and brake by wire that provide significant advantages to the car maker like – enhanced performance, increased design flexibility and reduced mass due to the reduction in mechanical hardware connections.This paper is intended to give an insight on the technology of common – rail fuel injection system, turbocharger, night vision technology and x-by-wire and their advancements in latest automobiles. The economy and comfort levels have made ingenious to always work on such types of systems and technology. Now-a-days, even environmental concerns have made still more necessary about improved fuel injection technology and complete combustion of fuel.
